Sekinchan, Selangor - Homeschooler Retreat 2018 [Day 1]
I called this break-away as #cuticutisawahpadi.
It was an adhoc, not-so-long planned holiday by 4 unschooling moms. We had the Adny's, Romantika's troop, the doctor's kids and our own, Isham's babies. All together 25 people, with 18 minions. Because it is a trip of homeschoolers, the activity became interesting and creative all the way from the beginning.
This is the itenary for day 1 :
We meet up at Bukit Malawati, Kuala Selangor at 1 - 2 pm.
What's interesting about that place? Historically, it was the administrative center and stronghold of the Selangor Sultanate in the late 18th and early 19th century.
Today, that place is a tourist spots to see the light house, royal graves, seven walls, a flat stone used for beheading offenders, a 100-step ladder, some of the old canon during the war time and monkeys feeding. There are two types of monkey up there, the Silver-Leafed Monkeys and Long-Tailed Macaques.
Then, we went head up to Farm Ville Cafe and Homestay to check-in at 3 pm. It's about 30 minutes from Kuala Selangor. After settling down, in the evening, we split into two groups. One heading to the Redang Beach. Another one, went for fishing.
Along the way to the beach, you will pass through Kampung Nelayan (the fisherman village) and there are numbers of local fisherman boats unloading or uploading their catch of the day. You can actually drop by and purchase if you want too. The price is cheap and the quality of the seafoods are guaranteed fresh!
There are 2 things interesting at the beach -
1) The Wishing Tree
2) Flying kites and soap bubble activity
The beach is not that clean for one to jump into the sea, but the sky and wind are so perfect for the kids or even adult to fly a kite. My kids enjoy playing soap bubble too.
Next, we went back to the hotel to join the rest of the Adny's catching some fish. We learn about a smelly insect which love to live near the paddy field. Watch out for it. The smell will definitely take your breath away (for a minute or two).
We had an early dinner just to celebrate Ilham's birthday which fall few days before the 'sawah padi' trip. Kak Farah and Ady bought some KFC for everyone to celebrate Ilham's 9th birthday. A small, yet memorable party. Everyone had an enjoyable time and foods too. Happy birthday to you, Ilham! Our prayers that you stay healthy and brilliant all the way to the top.
Fireflies River Cruise
Among the famous tourist spot in Kuala Selangor, are the fireflies boat cruises. There are two spot to watch fireflies there, one in Bukit Belimbing (charged by head), another one in Kampung Kuantan (charged by boat for 4). This time around, we choose to go to Kampung Kuantan and took 5 boats for the group.
We end the day with a smile and good night sleep. Everyone is so eager for tomorrow, Day 2 in Sekinchan!
